Where is Barcelona? Barcelona is a city located in Catalonia, Spain. It is the capital to the autonomous community of Catalonia and is currently the second largest city in the country in terms of population. Barcelona is also considered as a province in Catalonia along with Girona, Tarragona, and Lleida. Catalonia is bordered by Andorra and France to the north, Mediterranean Sea to the east, the Aragon state to the west, and Valencia State to the south.

Barcelona is the largest city on the Mediterranean Sea and is located between the rivers Besos and Llobregat, while bounded by the Serra de Colliserola mountain range to the west. It is a major city in southwestern Europe in terms of tourism, economy, culture, and infrastructure.

Barcelona is nestled on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula which faces the Mediterranean Sea, the Llobregat River to the southwest, and the Besos River to the north. The city is 75 miles south of Pyrenees and the border of France.
The city is also bordered by the municipalities of Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Adria de Besos to the north, Mediterranean Sea to the east, El Prat de Llobregat and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat to the south, and Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern, Sant Cugat del Valles, Esplugues de Llobregat, and Montcade i Reixac to the west. The municipality of the Mediterranean Sea is currently headquartered at Barcelona.

Where is Barcelona in terms of culture? Well, Barcelona is one of the most culturally significant cities of the world, and has been that way from the time it was founded as a Roman City. Today, Barcelona is home to many sites and landmarks that are designated as World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO, including historic buildings like the Casa Mila, Casa Vicens, Palau de la Musica Catalana, Casa Batllo, and Sagrada Familia to list a few.

Barcelona is also known around the world for its tourism, as it’s the third most visited city in Europe and 10th most visited in the world. It is home to some of the best beaches in the world along with historical monuments, unique streets and neighborhoods, and quality of tourism infrastructure. The city is widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful places on earth, both in terms of nature and architecture. Hence, it comes as little surprise that Barcelona is a World-Class City because of its culture and heritage, as designated by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group.
