Où se situe Rome?

Rome is the sprawling capital city of Italy located at central western side of the Italian Peninsula. The city is regarded as the birthplace of Western civilization and has a history spanning nearly to three centuries. Known in the past as the "Caput Mundi" (Capital of the world) and "Roma Aeterna" (The Eternal City), Rome is one of the oldest cities in Europe
Omnes viae Romam ducunt, which translates into "All roads lead to Rome", was true during the days of the ancient Roman Empire when roads radiated out of the capital city like the spokes of a wheel and stretched to empire's provinces.

Everyone knew the exact routes of where is Rome in those days. Today, a network of modern roads has replaced the ancient transit system, but they still connect to major cities in Europe including Berlin, Paris, Prague, and others. The city itself is located along the shores of the Tiber and Aniene rivers in Lazio, which is one of the 20 administrative regions in Italy.

So where is Rome located exactly? Modern Rome is about 24 km away from the Tyrrhenian Sea that is located in the south-western part of Italy. The city is located at an altitude that ranges from 43 ft to 456 ft (13 -139 m) above sea level with the base of Pantheon and the peak of Monte Mario. It covers a total area of about 496 sq. miles (1,285 sq.km) and is divided into two areas: a highly urbanized area and an area designated for parks, agriculture and natural reserves. The city enjoys a Mediterranean climate with cool, humid winters and hot summers.

Rome is a wonderful city where the past collides with the present reflecting rich and magnificent history of the city. There are many places worthy of a visit in the city each of which offers plenty of fun and excitement for the visitors. Some of the areas worth visiting in Rome include the Villa Borghese Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Maxxi National Museum, Via del Corso street, St. Peter's Square, and Navona Square. The last two have been designated UNESCO heritage sites in Italy.

Visitors can also marvel at various modern and ancient architecture and monuments such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Arch of Titus, Mausoleum of Hadrian, Piazza Navona, and others. Finally, Rome boasts of excellent eateries and high end restaurants that offer local delectable delicacies that are not found anywhere else such as carciofi (antichoke) and baccala (dried cured cod). Now that you know where is Rome located and what entertainment options are available in the city, you should not feel any doubt in making the city your next holiday destination.
