Where is Goa geographically? Goa itself is a state, and it is located in the western region of India. The capital of Goa is Panaji, and the largest city in Goa is Vasco da Gama. Goa takes up a total of 3,702 km2 of land, and has a population of more than 1,480,000 people. It has a very high literacy rate of 88.70 percent, and the official language is Konkani, but English is widely understood. On the north of Goa you will find the Indian state of Maharashtra, and to the south and east side Goa borders Karnataka. It is the smallest state in India, and is also the one with the highest standard of living in India.

The coastal region within which most of Goa lies is known as Konkan (it also gives its name to Konkani, the language of the region) which goes on to rise and become a range of mountains known as the Western Ghats. The Western Ghats lie between Konkan and the Deccan Plateau. There are many rivers in Goa, the major ones being Zuari, Mandovi, Chapora kushavati river, Terekhol, and Sal. River Zuari has the harbor Mormugao on it, which is widely considered to be the best harbor in all of South Asia. Goa has a tropical monsoon climate.

Another great part of Goa is that it is rich in natural resources. Due to the rivers, and the great quality of the soil, this place is great for fauna and flora, as well as agriculture. So if you want to see beautiful wildlife sanctuaries, Goa is the perfect place to go to. The local agriculture also heightens the quality of the food available, and some great vegetarian food can be had here.
