If you are planning on spending your next vacations in Mexico, then you must be wondering where is Mexico City. It is the largest city of Mexico and is located in the federal district. The city is home to some of the most beautiful museums, stadiums, and has well known restaurants and shopping malls.

The city is in a valley, which was home to people from several different ethnicities till 900 A.D. The city was the capital of New Spain till 1810, and then in the year 1821, it became the capital of the Mexican Empire. The city gained popularity when it hosted the Olympic Games in 1968. In the year 1985, the city suffered from a massive earthquake that destroyed over 3000 buildings, and killed almost 30,000 people.

Today, the city is one of the most renowned metropolitan areas in the world and is at a height of 7,349 feet, and covers an area of 1,485km2. The climate here is tropical, whereas the summers are hot, and the winters are cool. The monsoon season is from June till October, which comes right after the hottest month that the city experiences, which is May.
In order to get to the city, you can take a flight to the Benito Juarez International Airport. To travel in the city, you can either take the metro, taxi, trolley bus, light rail, turibus, bike, or the shuttle service.

When in Mexico City, don’t forget to visit the historic district as it has some of the most beautiful buildings like the Catedral Metropolitana, the Templo Mayor, and the Great Pyramid of Cholula. The Castle of Chapultepec is another place that you must visit, as it has a rich history and includes a museum. If you are fond of museums, then you should visit the National Museum of Anthropology. The area of Xochimilco is known as the city’s little Venice, as it has a number of canals, and has little boats that are covered with flowers.
