Where is Cannes?

Where is Cannes geographically? Cannes is a beautiful coastal town/ French commune lying on the French Riviera, located in the Alpes Maritimes department of the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur in the south east corner of France. The city is located strategically, serving as the gateway to Italy, Monaco, and French Alps.

The city dates back to the 2nd Century, but over time, it has urbanized dramatically, known worldwide for being one of the best vacation spots for the rich and famous and the host city of Cannes-Film-Festival. Curving along the French Riviera coast, the city features well-maintained and gorgeous sandy beaches, luxurious hotels and up-market boutiques. Cannes has a booming economy as a result of the thriving tourism, and of course, the aviation industry, trade, and no small number of business fairs.

It is a small yet modern town located approximately 20 kilometers on the west side of Nice and roughly 160 kilometers to Mareseille’s east. Other villages and communes close to this town are Mougins (which is only 15 minutes drive) from Cannes, Le Cannet and Vallauris.

Since the city is small in size, it does not have a public airport. The nearest airport is Nice, and from there, tourists travel to Cannes by road. However, Cannes does have a private airport which is only for private charters and planes.
It is the best known city situated on the French Riviera. The streets are graced by leafy green palm trees and flowers, giving tourists the impression of being in a tropical paradise.

Where is Cannes culturally and historically? The city is rich in terms of both culture and history, waiting for tourists to be explored. Some of the old landmarks that are a must visit by tourists in Cannes include Le Suquet. This is an old village with narrow streets and located on picturesque hill side setting. It stills retains its rustic ambience, representing the original fishing-village. In the heart of this village you’ll find epic landmarks like Eglise du Suquet and the famous watchtower from the 11th century, Tour Du Mont Chevalier.

Other glorious and historic places in Cannes for sightseeing are Notre-Dame de l'Espérance and Musée de la Castre. Notre-Dame de l'Espérance is an old church which was constructed in Cannes during the 16th century. The church boasts a mix of awe-inspiring architectural styles from the 16th and 18th century while Musée de la Castre is a historic monument situated on a hill close to the Bay of Cannes.
