Where is Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is a rugged rain forest region which attracts many visitors to its beautiful beaches and volcanoes, but where is Costa Rica? Costa Rica is part of Central America, nestled between Panama and Nicaragua. It borders with Nicaragua to the North, Pacific Ocean to the West, Panama to the Southeast, Ecuador to the South and the Caribbean Sea to the East. It has a population of 4.5 million residents with a quarter inhabiting the country's largest city and capital, San Jose. Costa Rica expands over an area of 51,060 sq. km over land and 40 sq. km of area in water. This puts Costa Rica on 131 among the largest nations of the world.

Where is Costa Rica historically? The country came under Spanish rule in 16th century and declared its sovereignty from the membership of United Provinces of Central America in 1847. The country abolished its army in 1949 and since then, does not have a standing army. Nevertheless, it has remained as one of the stable and progressing Latin American nations.
Costa Rica enjoys a rainy season from May to November and a dry season from December to April. It has over 100 volcanoes among which, many are active. Its coastline runs for 661 km, which on land, only borders with Panama and Nicaragua. . Now let's look at the beautiful places to visit in Costa Rica:

The Poas Volcano National Park is near San Jose city and the Juan Santamaria International Airport, making it a popular and busy tourist destination. It has one of the world's largest craters, which can be explored through a hike as a one day tour. You can also enjoy visiting the La Paz Waterfall, relaxing in its scenic views.
The La Fortuna Waterfall lies 200 feet above ground level and you can reach it by a car ride, horse ride or simply by hiking. The hike can be challenging but once you get there, the views and crystal clear waters will refresh you. You can jump in for a swim as well.

The Manuel Antonio national park is a 25 minutes flight away from San Jose Airport and is one of the most popular places to visit in Costa Rica. It has incredible beaches, wildlife and lush vegetation all waiting to be explored by families, solo travelers and couples. You can enjoy a variety of activities here including snorkeling tours, zip lining, whitewater rafting, and fishing among others. If you visit in December, you can also enjoy kayaking tours at this park.

If you're looking for a place for surfing and nightlife, Tamarindo is the place to visit. It is a small picturesque town with beautiful landscapes and planes. If you're not fond of surfing, perhaps you can head to the Papagayo Peninsula which offers stunning diving spots and many 5 star hotels to lounge in. On the whole, Costa Rica has a lot to offer.
