Where is Democratic Congo? Democratic Republic of Congo, as it is now known, was formerly known as Zaire. It is also referred to as DR Congo or DRC and is a country in Central Africa. Democratic Republic of Congo is the eleventh largest country in the world and the second largest in Africa.
It is bordered by the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and the Republic of Congo to the north, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda to the east, Angola and Zambia to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

Due to the tropical climate of the country, it has an abundance of biodiversity, having five national parks all of which are designated as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Salonga National Park, located on the basin of Congo River, is the largest tropical rainforest in Africa that expands into four provinces of the country. The Garamba National Park is another one of the most popular places to visit in Democratic Congo. The park is popular for African elephant tours where tourists can also take animal rides. Rental accommodation, lodging and dining are available at different designated areas of the park. Other parks including Virunga National Park, Kahuzi-Biega National Park and Okapi Wildlife Reserve now largely feature protected areas as a countermeasure to poaching.
