Where is Philippines? The country is actually a mixture of 7,100 islands and is located on the southeastern border of Asia. The Philippine Sea borders it on the east and on the west it is linked to the South China Sea. The land area is slightly larger than Arizona’s and measures about 300,000 square kilometers, which is about 115,000 square miles. The coastline spans across more than 36,000 km as well. Manila is the capital and is situated on the island of Luzon in the National Capital Region which is made up of about 12 urban areas.
There are several adventurous places to visit in Philippines if you know where to look. The Banaue, for instance, is often described as a point where the land meets the clouds to merge with the heavens. With rice terraces peppering its hills, it is an ideal place for nature lovers and those who want to immerse themselves in the country’s cultural heritage. Days can be spent hiking, biking and trekking the area and evenings can be spent around toasty campfires at one of the villages. The massive rice terraces are visited by large numbers of tourists every year so the area is well equipped to facilitate their stay. If you prefer doing your socializing indoors for instance, you can stay in the villages or at one of the lodges and inns in Banaue.
The Chocolate Hills cannot be missed if you are preparing a list of places to visit in Philippines. These are a series of 1,268 perfectly formed, haycock shaped hills that stand more than 30 meters above the ground. Considered to be a National Geologic Monument, they boast unique rock formations that date back millions of years. The hills span across three towns and are so called because they look like chocolate bonbons when the grass turns brown during the summer season. Two of them have also been developed and feature a view deck along with a restaurant and youth hostel.
So where is Philippines in your travel list this year? If you are like most adventurers, then chances are you are making preparations to visit it during your next vacation. The location also features a number of sandy beaches which are quite popular with families and solo tourists alike so it would be a good idea to pack your beach gear while you are packing along with generous amounts of sunscreen!
