Where is Strasbourg?

Strasbourg is a city in France. It is the capital of the Alsace region of France, one of the numerous beautiful cities in France which have preserved their nature and historical sites. The city has an area of 78.26 km2 and a population of 272,222 according to 2011 estimates.

It is a popular destination for tourists due to the numerous tourist attractions available here. The name is German because it is historically an Alemannic-speaking region. Strasbourg is also the seat of many important European institutions such as Council of Europe, Eurocorps, European Court of Human Rights, European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines, European Parliament, the International Institute of Human Rights, and the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine.

It is in close proximity to the border of Germany, and much of its culture has German influence. The distance from Paris to Strasbourg is 400 kilometers. It is the economic center and capital of the Alsace region.

It lies on the eastern part of the border with Germany; the aforementioned border is made by the River Rhine. The eastern border of the city is also made by the River Rhine. Kehl, the German town, is right across from the eastern border of the city. While the economic center may have now moved, historically speaking the center of the city lies in the River Ill, on the Grande Île.

The River Ill and the River Rhine run parallel to each other; however, there are many places in the city where they have been joined. On the west of the city lie the Vosges Mountains, while on the east we have the Black Forest. Where is Strasbourg's World Heritage Site Strasbourg boasts many historical sites which makes it popular with tourists.

While many tourists visit France only to come to Paris, seasoned travelers know that there is a lot of beauty in cities like Strasbourg. The Strasbourg Cathedral is an awe inspiring sight. Palais Rohan is an important location, and the museum in it has a fantastic collection. The Musée alsacien is a must visit to learn about the history of the region.

Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Strasbourg, and the Tomi Ungerer Museum are also worth a visit. Similarly, one cannot miss the Strasbourg astronomical clock or the Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Protestant Church.
